Encouragement for November: Do Yourself a Favor, and Just Ask
Two summers ago I read a book called The Defining Decade: Why Your Twenties Matter - And How to Make the Most of Them. One of the takeaways that stuck out to me was to not wait for opportunities to come around to get what you want out of life, but to ask for them. As I sat in a chair on the back deck I pondered that thought, and got an idea; with adrenalin running through my veins I decided to go for it. I whipped up an email to the founder of a nonprofit organization I had recently encountered that helps cancer patients and their families navigate the cancer journey, asking if I could share my story at their annual fundraising dinner. Shortly thereafter I got an email back that said yes!I was pumped! Not only did I get to share a message of hope with 800 people at the fundraiser the next spring, but I also happened to have the chance to sit next to the author of the inspiring and hopeful book Radical Remission: Surviving Cancer Against All Odds.Fast forward to this past August, and I get a message from an editor for a film production company in Austria. They wanted to film an episode on cancer featuring the author of Radical Remission, Dr. Turner, in addition to some radical remission cancer survivors, and Dr. Turner had given them my name as a local cancer survivor. It seemed too good to be true.Well, we filmed in early October and this month the epidose will air in Europe on Thursday, November 26 at 21:15 (Central European Time) on Servus TV (and www.servustv.com for at least one week)! I’m not sure if it will be all in German but I’m waiting to find out. :)Reaching out to people and asking for things takes courage and can seem like a selfish act. But we need help to see the change in our lives and the world that we want to see.Now it's your turn. Is there something you want, but you’re hesitant to go out and ask for it?My best advice is to use your best judgment, consider the possibilities, and be bold! You never know where it might lead you. I’m sure glad I didn’t hold back on that summer day a year and a half ago.I’d love to hear about your decision right now to take action, or another time you decided not to hold back and got something you truly desired because you asked for it. Please leave a comment here on this blog post!P.S. If you don’t already know about Believe Big I strongly encourage you to check out their website and sign up for their monthly newsletters.
