Hi, Friend! 😊
"I believe you're going to get well."
These were the inspiring and refreshing words Jon Gordon spoke to me over the phone as I sat on a couch in the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa in 2011. Two weeks prior I received the news that I had stage 4 cancer, and yet the next day center stage in front of me and a sea of other Boston University student-athletes stood Jon speaking about a victorious mindset. Coincidental timing? Maybe, or maybe, using Gar's clever alliteration, it was arranged by the Creator’s Cosmic Coincidence Control Center. :)
What stuck out most to me from Jon's talk at BU included working hard (quoting Will Smith as saying “You will not out-work me" in comparison to his competitors), using what you're going through to inspire others, and viewing your life from a "get to" rather than "have to" perspective. I tried to record as much inspiration as possible on the note paper Jon provided and I've kept that paper, through every move, as it holds sentimental value and continues to inspire me. :) See the photo below to find which quote speaks to you the most!
Jon is one of the reasons I had hope for healing in the last article I wrote about my remission anniversary. He asked if I believed in God and I said I didn’t know and that I had trouble believing. He sympathized with my struggle yet encouraged me to trust God and repeatedly pray, "God, if you’re there, please give me a miracle." So that’s what I started doing, as often as I needed it, in addition to taking the advice from his talk at BU. And I got my healing!I still need encouragement every day and I've often been finding it through Jon and his wife Kathryn's selfless work. If you'd like to connect with Jon and receive more encouragement from him there are many ways you can do this: through his email newsletters; his many wonderful books (31!), workshops, speaking and events; social media like Facebook and Instagram; his podcast and more! You can also connect with Kathryn, co-author with Jon on their Wall Street Journal Bestseller book Relationship GRIT, through her website, newsletter, podcast and social media: Facebook and Instagram! Even their children are involved in the family's work of encouraging! Jade is a speaker and I believe Cole does behind the scenes work. :)
If you wish to be an encourager of a positive mindset, check out Jon’s speaker certification program. The world could really use more people like Jon to help others like myself in 2011 who need hope for healing. Many lives could be saved!
I'll leave you with a quote from Jon's Power of Positive Summit in 2016: "Fear believes in a negative future. Faith believes in a positive future."
Best wishes for you and your loved ones,
Bailey 😊🙏
