New Cancer Survivor Study in the Works!
Hi Friend!
How are you doing?
You may have heard me mention the NEER study that I heard about and applied to be in over the summer. The NEER study is a retrospective study examining the cases of people with cancer with very poor prognoses who responded unusually well to treatment. I wanted to tell you about it again because I have more information about what kind of profile they're looking for, so if you and/or anyone you know are eligible you/they can apply and spread the word! I'm so excited we have this chance to find more answers to cancer!!
Here are more specific details:
"We are still accepting applicants. The acceptance rate is about 25%; the people we’ve accepted typically have very advanced forms of cancer at diagnosis and have 5-year survival rates of less than 5% at diagnosis. However, a lot depends on the particular type of cancer and the treatments that the individual has (for instance, as of late it’s been found that Keytruda has very high success rates with melanoma, so individuals who have had stage 4 melanoma who have also had Keytruda are typically not included in the study). Some of our individuals that we’ve had to turn down for now may also be considered exceptional responders in a year or two but are just not far enough out from their cancer diagnosis to be able to put them in that category yet (for instance, pancreatic cancer but only 1 year out). I will say with cancers that have very good survival rates now (particularly breast cancer and prostate cancer), it is hard to define an exceptional responder because the survival rates are so high. We are in the process of meeting with some experts in various fields of cancer to help better define these. In your case, our melanoma expert was particularly interested in your use of Coley’s Toxins and the fact that you are so many years out from your diagnosis.
I would say that if you know of anyone who MAY be an exceptional responder, if you don’t mind, absolutely share the web link (https://peoplepoweredmedicine.org/neer) with them so they can learn more and see if this is something they would be interested in applying for. If so, they can register and consent directly from that page. Just give them a heads up about the acceptance rate, please, so they don’t think it is an automatic acceptance if they register."
Please share, and have an amazing weekend, Friend!
