My work week this week is a bit shorter than usual as it started late and is ending a little early. I'm going to Baltimore today to volunteer at the Ulman Foundation Blue Jeans and Bow Ties young adult cancer fundraiser (woot!) and I came back on Tuesday from a retreat over the long weekend with teens from my church, which was a great time of fun, learning and connecting with others in the NY tri-state area (plus Philly and Albany)! My favorite message of the weekend by Pastor Rich was that no matter the storms going on in life, God is with us, He cares about us and will protect us wherever we go. 💜 (Daniel 3; Mark 4:35-41)
As for the group coaching I did on Wednesday I gave a brief overview of the NutrEval functional lab test. NutrEval is a test that you can get to find a deeper understanding of what's going on inside your body besides your typical blood tests. You can get information on whether your dietary intake is deficient in certain nutrients including antioxidants, vitamins and minerals and whether you're properly digesting and absorbing the foods you're ingesting, converting one substance to another. It also helps you figure out possible causes of malfunctioning in these processes, whether they are due to toxins, too much of another nutrient or a lack of enzymes or cofactors (ions or organic molecules like vitamins).
One thing that's cool about the NutrEval test is that it provides supplement recommendations based on your results! It can help you determine which supplements may be helpful and which doses would be appropriate (otherwise you may be taking supplements and wasting them if you don't actually need them). Unfortunately at the moment (let's change this!) it is expensive - about $2000 out of pocket or less if covered by insurance - so it may be considered more of a luxury item on a healing journey, but if you have the means it could be helpful in determining the causes of your dis-ease and monitoring your progress. I have never had the test done on myself but for anyone who is struggling with their health and has already tried diet, supplement and lifestyle changes, I sometimes recommend it to get further insight into what can be done to see improvements.
Here's what the NutrEval test contains...
First it gives an overview of your results and rates each nutritional component as either normal, borderline or high need. Then it gives supplement recommendations, which is so convenient!! For each nutrient it explains its importance, what problems may occur with an imbalance and food sources of the nutrients.
Then it also reviews the results of your...
- Probiotics and pancreatic enzymes needs (under digestive support)
- Mitochondrial dysfuntion, need for methylation and toxic exposure (under functional imbalances)
- Metabolic analysis markers (including malabsorption and dysbiosis markers, cellular energy and mitochondrial metabolites, creatinine concentration, neurotransmitter metabolites, vitamin markers, toxin and detox markers and tyrosine metabolism)
- Amino acids (nutritionally essential amino acids, nonessential amino acids, intermediary metabolites and dietary peptide related markers)
- Essential and metabolic fatty acids markers (RBCs) (omega 3 fatty acids, omega 9 fatty acids, saturated fatty acids, omega 6 fatty acids, monounsaturated fats, delta-6 desaturase activity and cardiovascular risk)
Once you have your results you can supplement with vitamins or tweak your diet, then wait a few months and re-test.
